Introduction
This course is called level 1 City and Guilds Photography. The course consists of awards and certificates in which I could choose one or the other. In both the award and certificate there are different catagories of photography which again i can choose to attempt to complete. The awards consist of Award in Photography all the way through to Specialist Image Capture. The certificates consist of specialst photography, for example landscapes, events, close-up etc.
What I Have Chosen
I have chosen to attempt the "Level 1 Award in Photography" qualification. This qualification includes two mandatory units and one Optional unit.
Unit 101- Introduction to Image Capture
This is the first mandatory unit in the qualification. It is designed to get candidates to show that they can use camera skills in recording images. There is no theme to the images that are required to be captured. For this unit i will have to capture a minium of six photographs by using the appropriate equipment and then outputting the images so they are available for viewing.
I will be assessed using either:
* Downloaded unmodified images viewed on a screen
* Images in the form of externally processed prints
Unit 107- Introduction to Presenting Photo Images
This is the second mandatory unit. This unit is all about how I can present the images i have captured and in what way i presented them. For this unit I will be able to use the images that i have captured for the previous task.
The second part of this task is to produce a written account for the first part of this task. This must outline the method used to present the final images and it must also outline a different way the images could've been presented.
Unit 108- Digital Image Manipulation
This is the final unit in the qualification (optional unit). This unit involves the images that I will be capturing and then editing them with visual effects. For this unit I will be expected to select a minimum of four images, edit them and then display them alongside with the original images.
The second part of this task will involve me providing a written account which will include:
* The software that I used to edit the images
* The qulaity checks that were carried out
* How the images that I have edited relate to the theme
* Legal and ethical considerations
Why I Chose This Qualification
I chose to attempt to complete this qualification because i have had no real experience in photography before so i feel that this qualification was right for me because it will teach me the basics in photography in which i can take with me to the level 2 course next year. This qualification will also teach me how to use a camera in manual settings to produce different types of images.
